(November 13, 2015)—Today, I want to send a fairly short message via blog to our supporters and members.

Archaeology Southwest and Crow Canyon are pleased to announce a public forum to promote protection of the Greater Chaco and Mesa Verde Landscapes. The event will be held on Saturday, November 21, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Crow Canyon Archaeological Center.

We’ve assembled a panel with Native Americans, archaeologists, and other experts to discuss the challenges of protecting the fragile landscapes of Chaco and Mesa Verde.

We welcome diverse members of the public. Please come out and bring your questions and opinions on this important issue.

I would like to have you consider the nomination of Chaco Canyon and its outliers and roads as thematic World Heritage Site. This is an important step in preservation of this internationally significant sites.

    Thanks for the comments, folks!

Going beyond the current World Heritage Site status for Chaco and its Outliers to a thematic designation for the larger landscape is definitely something to consider.

I know it’s probably already on the agenda, but please keep the roads into Chaco unpaved.

Mark Barnes….Chaco Canyon is already a World Heritage Site, since the 1980s. However, expanding it to include its outliers would be wonderful and something to consider.
