  • Safford Valley Project

This research by former Preservation Fellow Anna A. Neuzil examined archaeological data from the Safford and Aravaipa valleys in an effort to understand the social consequences of migrations to southeastern Arizona in the 13th through 15th centuries. For more on her recent publication of this research, visit the University of Arizona Press.

Dr. Neuzil’s work and that of our colleagues working in the Safford region is highlighted in Archaeology Southwest Magazine, Vol. 20, No. 2, “Archaeology on the Periphery: Recent Research in the Safford Basin.” Dr. Neuzil also co-edited Archaeology Southwest Magazine, Vol. 22, No. 4, “Immigrants and Population Collapse in the Southwest,” which offers an excellent introduction to her research within a regional context.
