This was a seasonally inhabited site of an Ancestral Pueblo group archaeologists call Cohonina. These people lived west of the San Francisco Peaks from about A.D. 700 to 1100. Archaeologists and volunteers with the Passports in Time program investigated Clover Ruin in 1993 and 1994. Residents of the site grew crops such as corn, beans, and squash. The Cohonina migrated southward after the eruption of Sunset Crater. The site is located near the Williams District Ranger Station on the Kaibab National Forest.
