The Aztec Community comprises west and east Chacoan great houses and other structures. Only West Ruin is open to visitors; the half-mile self-guided visitor trail winds through a reconstructed great kiva and through original great house rooms with intact timber ceilings. The visitor center features museum exhibits with artifacts, Archaeology Southwest’s Chaco’s Legacy digital exhibit, a 15-minute orientation video, and a Heritage Garden. The grounds include a segment of the Old Spanish National Historic Trail that leads to the Animas River.
