Tucson, Ariz. (November 30, 2023)—Archaeology Southwest is pleased to share that two of our staff members were honored by professional societies earlier this month.

Preservation Anthropologist Aaron M. Wright received the 2023 Professional Archaeologist Award at the annual meeting of the Arizona Archaeological Society on November 4. Aaron was recognized for his contributions to the Society—lectures, tours, and classes—as well as his general contributions to the discipline through publications and symposia.

Preservation Archaeologist and Chaco Scholar Paul F. Reed received the Lucy C. Schuyler Award at the annual meeting of the New Mexico Archaeological Council on November 11. The award is bestowed on an archaeologist who works with legacy data to make a contribution to New Mexico archaeology. Upon retiring from IBM, Schuyler, known as “Lou,” spent almost two decades reorganizing and ultimately reporting on legacy collections housed at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology at the University of New Mexico. Reed is well known for his long dedication to legacy collections housed at Salmon Pueblo and excavated there under the direction of Cynthia Irwin-Williams in the 1970s.

Congratulations, Paul and Aaron!
