Cherie Freeman receives the Center for Desert Archaeology's "Volunteer of the Year" award in 2008.

The Center is pleased to announce that long-time volunteer Cherie Freeman will receive the 2011 Governor’s Archaeology Advisory Commission’s Award in Public Archaeology, in the Avocational Archaeologist category. Cherie’s contributions to the preservation and protection of Arizona’s heritage are numerous and exceptional. She has put in thousands of hours of service at the Center for Desert Archaeology, as an Arizona Site Steward, and at the Arizona State Museum. Cherie was the Center’s “Volunteer of the Year” in 2008 (pictured at left).

Cherie and other award recipients will be honored at the 2011 Arizona Statewide Historic Preservation Partnership Conference on Friday, June 24, 2011. For information on the conference, please visit www.azpreservation.com.
