– National Park Service Supports New National Park Designation for Waco Mammoth Site: Making the Waco mammoth site a part of the national parks system now has the full support of the National Park Service. The remains of 24 mammoths were discovered north of Waco in the late 1970s. The endorsement means the National Parks Service can now help the city analyze a management option for the site in North Waco. Waco City Council members viewed phase one of the proposed plan last week, which includes pathways, a visitors center, and an area where visitors can view the fossils below them in a pit.
