Site Summary: This fort was constructed near Las Cruces in 1865 to protect settlers from raids by outlaws and Apache Indians.
The fort housed units of the famous Buffalo Soldiers until it was decommissioned in 1891.
On summer weekends, living history programs and displays demonstrating nineteenth- century military life are available .
