From Above: Images of a Storied Land

Adriel Heisey

A collaboration among internationally acclaimed photographer Adriel Heisey, the Center for Desert Archaeology, and the Albuquerque Museum, From Above: Images of a Storied Land features sixty large-format aerial photographs of historical landscapes across the Southwest. As you experience Mr. Heisey’s images, you are invited to consider anew the wonder and fragility of some of the Southwest’s best-known archaeological sites, such as Chaco Canyon’s Pueblo Bonito and Tucson’s own Tumamoc Hill, as well as special places off the beaten path.

The exhibit completes its nationwide tour with an exhibition at the Ventana Gallery on the Ventana Medical Systems campus in Oro Valley, Arizona, from October 6, 2011, through January 7, 2012. To find out more about viewing the exhibition, click here.

This virtual gallery guide includes links to relevant issues of our award-winning magazine, Archaeology Southwest, and to information about publicly accessible locations. All of the images in the exhibit are listed alphabetically by title. Clicking on any of the featured images along the right will enlarge them for better viewing. To enjoy all of the images at any time, purchase the companion book.

For more information about purchasing one or more of these framed and matted archival-quality photographs, please contact Linda Pierce by email or phone, 520-882-6946, ext. 23. Proceeds benefit the Center for Desert Archaeology.
