Artifacts from the Clearwater Site

Artifacts from the Clearwater SiteThis image shows a sample of the types of artifacts found during excavations at the Clearwater site.

The projectile points are not arrowheads, but dart points, which were used with a type of dart-thrower known as an atl-atl.

The three gray objects in the middle of the image are pieces of ancient pottery. These ceramic fragments were found in a layer of soil that was radiocarbon dated to around 2100 B.C., making these potsherds some of the first ceramics used in the American Southwest.

The objects below the pottery sherds are pieces of shaped stone and bone that may have been fragments from figurines or even parts of ancient jewlery.
