Experiments in 3D Photography – Photosynth at Las Capas

The site of Las Capas in Microsoft's "Photosynth," a 3D photo browser
The Center for Desert Archaeology has been developing ways of extracting three-dimensional data from photographs since 1999. When Microsoft released “Photosynth,” we were quick to explore how this program might be used for archaeological documentation.
Photosynth works by examining sets of photographs to find common features. It then arranges the photographs in three-dimensional space, creating a unique way of browsing a combination of photographic and 3D data. Click the link below to open the Photosynth website and explore the archaeology of the ancient farming village of Las Capas.
Note to Web-savvy Internet Travelers: Many more important places of the past have been posted on Photosynth by the Center for Desert Archaeology and other researchers. We encourage you to explore this fascinating resource!
