This small bowl was found in trash deposits in Room 93 of Salmon Pueblo. Room 93 was a large room used for habitation in the late San Juan period.

This vessel represents an ancient ceramic tradition that archaeologists call Mesa Verde Black-on-white. This style of pottery was manufactured in the San Juan Basin and Mesa Verde regions from A.D. 1200 to 1300.

The Center for Desert Archaeology has spent the past ten years in partnership with the Salmon Ruins Museum, working to preserve and understand collections from this important ancient village. You can read more about this research here.
